Not perfect, but special
If there’s one thing you should know about these masks, it’s this:
Every single one of these masks was made just for you, by someone incredibly special. Meet my unique team behind the coloring masks!
A little bit about them: There’s a non-profit organization in Warsaw called Warszawskie Koło PSONI, dedicated to support and empower people with intellectual disabilities. One of their most heartwarming projects is called a Family Home. For intellectually challenged adults, independent living isn’t an option. They live with parents or care-takers who support them in their daily lives. However, some disabled adults outlive their parents and they are left alone in a world that they simply can’t conquer on their own. This is where the Family Home comes in. It’s a place they can call home. They live together, supported by therapists and caretakers when needed. They cook together, they support each other and they form a unique and loving community that’s just like family.
During the recent COVID-19 outbreak, these people took on a great challenge. Together with their therapist, they thought themselves how to create fabric face masks. Despite their difficulties, they poured their hearts and time into protecting the community and I think it’s a beautiful quest.
I am very proud to work with this unique team of people.
As many of you know, I have a very special little brother with Down Syndrome (It’s a genetic disorder, causing intellectual disability). Given my personal experience, it means the world to me that I get to empower these wonderful people. This is why I chose to outsource my production to the Family Home community.
Keep in mind, these face masks may have small imperfections. Even though they are made from the same template, no two units are exactly the same. Most of the imperfections are insignificant or hard to notice. Only masks that are fully functional are available for sale here.
I will donate part of the profits to PSONI to go towards their Family Home. Buy buying a mask today, you’re helping create a home for Heniek, Małgosia, Ania, Agata, and more real people who need us.
If you would like to make a personal donation to Warszawskie Koło PSONI, you can do that through their Facebook page. Make sure to mention the Family Home in your donation. You’re always welcome to say that Anna Grunduls referred you.
Non-toxic coloring supplies
You can choose to use your mask as-is or to color in the fabric. If you decide to color in the design, please make sure to use non-toxic coloring supplies.
Personally, I recommend Arteza’s Premium Fabric Markers. I double-checked with their team and confirmed that these markers are non-toxic and safe to use around your face.
To be extra careful, I recommend letting your colored mask sit for 24 hours until the inks set nicely. After 24 hours make sure to iron over the design and hand wash the mask in cold water before the first use.
I do not recommend using fabric paint. Paint creates a gum-like coating on top of the fabric and can result in poor breathability.
The fabric was printed with non-toxic, water-based pigment inks. The inks are set in very high temperatures, making the print very durable. No additional water is used during this printing process, making it very environmentally friendly.
The fabric is safe for kids and is produced according to standards of Okeo-tex Standard 100 – world’s leading safety certification for textiles. Please keep in mind that masks absolutely should not be used for smaller kids (ages 2 and below).
Wash in 40 degrees Celsius or less.
On a washing machine, choose the subtle or hand wash setting.
Use lower spin speeds, recommended 400 or less.
Some of the masks may come initially hand-washed with warm water only. For hygienic reasons, I recommend washing your mask before first use.
