Alcohol-Based Markers

Ohuhu Honolulu Alcohol Brush Markers
One of the most recommended brands in the coloring world. Why? For this price you won’t find more reliable markers with a huge color selection like Ohuhu. Available in sets up to 320 colors – these markers have taken the coloring world by storm and rightfully so.
Though I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – you don’t need 320 markers to start coloring. Start with what you already have. With that being said, I’m a stationery lover too and owning a big selection of markers makes me happy. If you can afford them, you definitely won’t regret this purchase.

Copic Alcohol Markers
An absolute classic. Copics are a leading brand of alcohol based markers used by professional arists, because their quality is unmatched. The biggest weakness? High price point and smaller sets. While Copic has a very wide range of colors, their biggest sets only include 72 pens. It’s a good investment if quality is your highest priority, but if you’re a hobby colorist, I would probably go with a brand that is more budget-friendly and can deliver almost the same level of quality at a much lower price point.

Decotime Twinmarker Alcohol Markers
I recently tried these viral Decotime Twinmarkers after getting them from a local Action shop – and I am incredibly impressed. The price was very low, so my expectations weren’t high, but these markers can easily compare to large premium brands and all of that at a fraction of the cost. Bonus points for the practical trays, included in the packaging. The plastic feels a little cheap and some of the caps are hard to open, but the actual markers are fantastic and well-pigmented. The biggest issue with these is their availability (only in selected European countries, in limited editions).

Arteza Everblend Alcohol Markers
Arteza started as a budget brand, but their quality is so top-notch that they have become one of the most premium brands of markers out there. And rightfully so! I got my first set of Arteza Everblend Markers over 4 years ago and not a single marker has dried. I’ve been using them very intensively (almost exclusively) these past 4 years and the colors haven’t changed one bit, the markers are still like new!
If you can afford these markers, they are my personal favorite and I think the investment will pay off greatly over time. This is the brand of markers that will last you for a very long time. The color selection isn’t as big as with the other brands, but I think the 120 set is large enough for most colorists.

Colored Pencils

Prismacolor Premier Pencils
I have my own set of Prismacolor pencils and they’re honestly incredible. The leads are super smooth, perfect for layering and blending – which is exactly why so many pro artists use them for realistic work. The one downside? The cores can break a bit too easily. But that softness is also what makes them so amazing: you can color for hours without straining your hand. A total win for serious colorists!

Faber-Castell Polychromos Colored Pencils
Polychromos are the European alternative to Prismacolor – just as smooth and insanely pigmented, but with an oil-based core and a slightly higher price tag. The quality is absolutely top-tier; it honestly feels like drawing with a soft cloud. And just like Prismas, they’re gentle on your hand, so you can color for hours without fatigue while still getting breathtaking, pro-level results.

Caran d’Ache Luminance
Caran d’Ache Luminance pencils are the luxury brand of the coloring world – smooth, creamy, and an absolute dream to blend. They offer rich coverage and some of the best lightfast ratings out there, meaning your artwork will stay vibrant for years, even when exposed to light. If you’re looking to invest in top-shelf quality, these pencils are as premium as it gets.

Arteza Expert Colored Pencils
Arteza Expert Colored Pencils are a great budget-friendly alternative to Prismacolors – creamy, nicely pigmented, and easy to blend. While they might not layer quite as smoothly as Prismas, they still deliver beautiful results and are definitely worth the investment, especially if you’re looking for quality without breaking the bank.
