Did you know you can make the most magical fairy lights with cheap string lights and pony beads? I’m absolutely obsessed with this DIY project and the best part for me was that it’s incredibly easy to make 🙂 I think mine took me 30 minutes and I was recording the process along the way.
To make your whimsical garland, you’ll need:
String lights – mine are from Action, and here are some from Amazon that look similar
Pony beads – again, mine are from my personal collection, but you can use any set. Personally, I recommend also including clear beads for the light shine though nicely. This set from Amazon would work really well.
(Optional) Hot glue – to secure the end of your string lights. I just made a small know and it did the trick, so I didn’t really need my glue gun 🙂
How to make your fairy lights with beads?
The process is incredibly simple! Figure out your color sequence and keep putting the beads onto the string lights. You don’t need any needles, as the wire from the string lights i perfectly sturdy.
Once all your beads are on, tie a knot (or secure with hot glue) and you’re done! You can put in the batteries and enjoy your new colorful decoration 🙂

Personally, my favorite part about this project is how quickly you can finish it! Lately, I’ve been obsessed with projects you can start and finish in one sitting. It’s a quick dopamine boost and a good warm up before attacking a larger project you’ve been putting off. Like an appetizer in a restaurant of crafts!

Safety disclaimer: Before approaching a project like this, make sure to read the safety label on your string lights and make sure they won’t overheat! Also, don’t use beads that could melt (like perler beads), because they could be a safety hazard when used around string lights.
Such a brilliant idea! I have pony beads from when I used to make friendship bracelets, so I think they’ll become the new decoration for my desk 😀
